War rages on!

So I stumbled across and article about the new comercials that Microsoft has been playing for pc.( http://adage.com/digital/article?article_id=136731 ) It discusses how ever since macs commercials have been out the sell of macs has increased and pc’s went down. Well now pc’s are going back up do to consumer actually looking at the price and what they are getting. Sometimes I am just really surprised how Mac has been able to stay in the race. Just to start off no I do not hate Mac I just also have the same issue with the pricing. Yes as much as i hate to say it but if I was into more of the graphics field I would definetly aim more towards the mac. The chip structure allows for better rendering than a pc. They do also have some neat software that is not available for the pc but thats where it stops for me. Its just not price effective at $1700 for something that I can and have bought with better processing power and memory for $800 last October with a larger screen. I know this sounds like a rant but I am getting close to my point. I know Microsoft Vista definitly did not help their image just the same as Microsoft Bob.

But why does Mac just give in a create a version of Mac os for the pc. They already started using the Intel processor a few years back. I know there is that whole thing that vista ran better on a Mac but when it comes to price it changes the way consumers will view a product. This past semester a fellow student to a $300 netbook and was able to turn it into a mac. It took him a little finecing to get it to install but once he did it looked like a mac ran like a mac he just decided to through an old Apple sticker on top of it.  I think Mac would be way more successful if they sold netbooks and notebooks like this. Yeah they can still offer there hardware. There is always someone out there who will still want to buy or have the money to. Especilly if it where for some form of graphics,music, video editing. Look at alienware even though they are expensive and believe me they are. They still sell product for their target demograph.

So now on to my next point I have been testing Windows 7 and I actually find it a good product that microsoft should have just waited and released instead of vista. The great thing if mac had an x86 version than people could dual boot the systems and depending on their needs could run the system that they want or the system of choice if they would choose that option. Well for right now i have to get back to work but understand that these are just some of my opinions and they should not be taken as life or death and that I do not speak for Mac or Windows.

Dark Arts minature Bases

So today I recieved some dark art minature bases. I order the infected bases after seeing 40k now has the company sponsering them. I have to say awesome job these are amazing and the price is great. I have yet to clean them off and paint them but they where probably the cheapest resin purchase i have ever had to make for the amount i received. It is about 15 dollars for enough bases that covers a dreadnought, a five man terminator squad, and 20 chaos space marines. I also picked up the pinth display for the infected series and Im just gonna have to say these are amazingly detail and i can not wait to paint them up. I would recommend this company to anyone look for that lil bit extra to bring there minatures to life. The shipping from the uk only took about a week which was amazing as i had saw that sometimes it takes a couple weeks to get thing from the royal mail into the United States. But i cant wait to through some paint on these and get my Nurgle army fielded.

Lots of stuff

Ok I know I wanted to start writing about different issue with technology but life gets in the way sometimes. I was more concentrated on finishing up the semester. Now in a little over a month I am going to be moving again after the last two of my class are finished. Professor Liles has had the project that I worked on with fellow students in ITS 454 Cyber Response Plan go check it out. It was a challenge to create within the time frame. It is probably the largest cyber response plan that includes the policies, procedures, users, before, during, and after an incident. It was an interesting project that I had learned alot from including the great book used for helping us create our presentation call Presentation Zen. I am taking two graduate calsses this summer to finish my degree. I will be posting to selil blogspot so cheeck there for more interesting posts.

Current IT knowledge munchies

Since I have been working on a cyber response project for class it has yet given me the thirst (“munchies”) for more knowledge in this area from reading a few post off of my professors blog -  selil.com. It has made me wonder what else it going on besides evil google, and facebook trying to own our memories and life experiences.  Every time in class we talk about what if or how to respond.  A current ongoing joke is the ip toaster being takin over and burning our toast. Or in my mind the house down that it may be in. After being a student of Professor Sam Liles for about 5 years now his way of thinking has corrupted or molded my mind into thinking about attacks outside the box and what to do before an attack occurs and being proactive.  I used to look at having to researching things as a burden but now I almost crave it. From this long and boring sporing of words. I have decided to post at least once a week on something I find and give my opinion on the topic. I will find a post in a couple of days and write about it.

What I am currently working on

I am currently working on a Nurgle army. I had recieved the renegade strike force as a christmas present. Got some nice forge world converts and the army is becoming nurglefied.

My Blood Angels Army I am working on a Devasator Squad, 9th Tatical Sqaud, Land Raider Crusader and a space marine bike that is still in the box lol just like a 40k player.

I’ll try and get some pictures up when i get some extra time.

Long time since i have posted

Well i can of got away from posting to my blog just because life got busy. I have continued to work for Horseshoe Hammond in their IT department. There are many things that I have learned that I will take with me and make sure to adress when i become an engineer at another company. Just from my schooling I have noticed many things that I was told for security issues and just random things that where left for the current manager that is beginning to be fixed but its getting there slowly. I am going to be taking 4 classes this semester so i can graduate sooner now that i have got into the swing of things with my job. I am so close to graduating and hopefully can be done this summer.

Been a busy month

It has been a very busy month my internship has been under way for a while and just this weekend we Kicked off the grand opening of the New Horseshoe Casino in Hammond. It was a huge project costing about 500 million dollars to finish. Never thought I would be working on a project so large. Thanks to Sam Liles I have been able to apply the things that I have learned in classes and share them with my peers here, and spark their interest in different areas. For other little stuff Chicago Games Day was cool got my fiance to have fun and be a little geeky. But now school is almost about to start again and i can not wait to get done this year and finish my classes to get into the industry as a network admin or systems engineer.

internship update

It has been about a month since i have started my internship. I am learning a great deal which is exciting. But there is also be some down time with the opening of the new boat soon. I am really hoping to stay on and be able to actually have a start in the it field. I will keep people post.

My internship

So it has been an exciting week of applying the information that I have obtained over the years in classes and from reading articles on the web. Even though i have technically been employed with Harrah’s Entertainment at horseshoe in Hammond for two weeks now. I finished orientation last week and really got to dive into the it department this week. I have had the chance to talk to many different people and just alone in my department I have talked with the techs, engineers, Lan administrator, managers and the regional director. I have fallen on to a great opportunity because of the horseshoe opening there new casino in August, i have got to work with both new and aging technology and learn much that a classroom would never be able to teach me. I think a lot about doing things ethically and properly so I do not mess up and loose some big transaction. I am looking forward to the upcoming weeks and hopefully when my internship is over I can stay on as a full time employee.
